What is an Orthotic?
A foot orthotic is a medical device that is prescribed and custom-made to fit into the feet of a patient, is called a foot orthotic.
Its purpose is to help people have better foot posture and relieve foot pain. It works in the same way as glasses for the eyes for their feet.
Orthotics are often thought to be only for seniors. They can be used by anyone of any age and for any activity.
Orthotics come in many sizes and shapes, just like the feet they treat. It all depends on what footwear they’re wearing and what conditions they’re treating.
According to the needs and physical characteristics of each patient, custom orthotics can be made from hard plastic or carbon laminates to soft foam. They can be worn in a wide range of shoes including children’s shoes to protect your feet, protective footwear, and skate shoes.
What is custom orthopedic footwear?
These shoes are for patients with severe deformities and are also called custom-made therapeutic footwear. These shoes are custom-made to fit the patient’s morphology. The orthotic insoles, also known as plantar orthoses, are designed to enhance the function of walking.
Three main problems can be corrected by orthopedic shoes:
- A deformity (toes or uneven length of lower limbs, etc.
- Instability (for example, after a toe amputation)
- Difficulty in putting on shoes (rheumatoid, dwarfism, etc.
1 Custom orthotics
Although shoe inserts may improve comfort, they can’t correct biomechanical foot problems. Only custom-made orthotics can address this.
2 foot mold
A custom orthotic is a foot-shaped, digitally/physically-created mold that is customized to your foot.
